The one with the Force
This morning, I came across one of those hilarious videos that only sincere fans can truly enjoy and appreciate. It inspired me to find more, so I looked around on Youtube for a while during lunch. There's not much to say about these other than this - if a fan you are, enjoy these you will.
These are some of my favorite spoofs/spinoffs/et cetera...

This is a well-done "COPS" spoof that was done way back '97.

Again, another for those of us who dare question the "realistic nature" of movies...

The one with God's immutability
Pastor Kent gave another passionate sermon today on the immutability of God, part of the Knowing God series (you can listen or join the Podcast here). In it, Kent discusses 8 key characteristics of God's unchangeable, perfect nature.
Earlier this week, my heart broke for the Jasper family after hearing about their son, Cooper. Their story has been the inspiration for another film from the same folks that have brought us Facing the Giants & Fireproof. For those of you who don't know of the Jasper family's story, please, take a look at their story in this in-depth video interview (go ahead and "sign up" - it doesn't have to be a "real" email address - there's a link to watch the video immediately after).
I cannot imagine the pain that they have endured and pray that I never have the ability to sympathize with it. But even through their struggle's, J.J.'s words of encouragement give surreal understanding to faith. There are many struggles and terrible things encompassing our globe the last few weeks (Libya, Egypt's corruption (with a recent positive voting result!), Japan's earthquake, remaining Afghanistan & Iraq conflicts....). God's Creation alone is a brief window to His magnificence and genius - and a perfect example of how little we humans can possibly understand amidst it's complexity. Our primitive minds will never be able to understand but a glimpse of His sovereignty, nor how and why all things happen. The Jasper family's story is another horrific example of struggle that escapes our human understanding, but, thankfully, they've been willing to share their story for us to benefit from.
In my reflection this week on the Jasper family, one thing stuck out and resonated with me today as I was hearing Pastor Kent's sermon.
"There are no words to describe how we hurt... But God's sovereignty and His character do not change. He is still a good God. We knew that intellectually, and now we know it experientially." - J.J. Jasper

The one where Creation calls
I came across a phenomenal video production put on by The Branch church, down in Dallas, TX. The video clips are from BBC's "Planet Earth" series (recently produced by Discovery Channel), put to music from Brian Doerksen.
In Romans 1:19-20, Paul tells us:
I challenge you to hear God's call to you through His amazing Creation!
I think Rich Mullins said it best, "Our God is an AWESOME God!"

The one on a battle ship (OK, technically a destroyer)
Christina and I toured the USS Gridley, one of the latest and greatest destroyers in our Naval fleet. The Navy brought her into Seal Beach for a brief publicity stunt, and I was all about it. Thanks to my wife for finding out about it! The Gridley was christened in February of '06... not that long ago. It employs the latest in ship stealth technology, and touts an incredible arsenal of missiles. Here's an abridged version of our tour...
Hard to believe, I know, that our majestic flag is still allowed to fly free in this state...

An M777 Howitzer, with it's Oshkosh Truck towing truck.
It was a looooooooooong line - free admission. Cool. Finally, got something for my tax dollars...
This jolly veteran was very enthused to talk a little shop with the soldiers on staff. He really wanted to try out that AR-15... In all seriousness, thanks to all you veterans and active duty soldiers out there. We are blessed by your sacrifices, and I pray that God blesses you and your families!

Aforementioned missiles shoot out of these doors. The sailors were trying to get all the kids to jump on on the doors and put their hands up as if they were missiles shooting out. It was cute, but also a bit creepy. The reality of the ships abilities started to set in.
Ever wonder what a modern sailor is packin'?
Don't look up... yup there were more on the upper deck.
I couldn't NOT take this photo op... it's very empowering, isn't it?
Gotta' end with the shot of the "newly weds" enjoying an afternoon in the sun.
